The Beginning

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

In 2016 three Mahon descendants met and began sharing family information we had been researching for the past 20 plus years. The kinship was immediate and we realized the 200th anniversary of our ancestors arriving on this shore was worthy of a great gathering. James Mahon and his wife Ellen Troy and their eight children landed in Quebec City in 1819. The Shiplist states their voyage began from Dublin, Ireland and lasted 44 days, finally arriving on July 7th. After reading numerous journals recording conditions of such a voyage, it is a wonder this family of ten arrived safe and sound. Obviously they were a strong and determined family to make their home in a new land. James passed at the age of 90, while Ellen left this earth after 78 years. They left eight children to continue their legacy in their new homeland. Some of their children remained in and around Perth, while others ventured to areas south, west and north. Those families will be explored in the months to come through stories, history and photos. CM
